Thread: Death and DMT

  1. #1

    Default Death and DMT

Death: The irreversible cessation of all vital bodily functions.

However, it is theorized that after death, the brain remains in a comotose state for a few minutes.

now, if being in a coma is almost identical to sleep (aka, unconsiousness) then that means that DMT should be released into the individual.

DMT basically causes dreams. now, while the brain panicks and grasps for oxygen (which is impossible seeing that breathing has stopped) you are dreaming while you fully shut down. Is this dream "Heaven?"

Sorta, It's this chemical in the brain that releases while you sleep, giving you dreams

Then my answer is no, I don't think there are any proofs that in those 5 minutes, you are only bound to dream with a place with lots of clouds, with a golden gate in the sky.

Meh, you might be right, it is a theory after all. But electrical activity in the brain after death may say otherwise...

DMT contributes to the visual components of a dream. I wouldn't call it heaven, but I'm sure it makes the process of dying less painful.

If this hallucination does exist, and some people's 'near death experiences' seem to suggest it may, it is not heaven- it's a hallucination afterall.

Please site your source for the claim that DMT is released in sleep, I'm having trouble confirming this but can confirm a similar hormone, melatonin is generated in sleep: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin
Please site your source that coma is similar to sleep; I dispute this it is very different in my view especially since it's often a product of severe injuries and malfunctions of the brain and disrupts normal sleep cycles.

Please site a source It's difficult to find out whether dmt is actually produces in dreams, I've only found references to trace amounts and similar compounds, but not dmt itself.

Its ok, its ok. This heaven he is talking about is just a dream produced by a chemical in the brain, nothing more. He is not saying heaven is real. You can defend this statement since he may actually be saying that heaven is not real.

'It may play a role in mediating the visual effects of natural dreaming, and also near-death experiences, religious visions and other states,'

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyltryptamine

    This is hypothetical.

Well I looked it up on wikipedia and
-nobody's sure if dmt is produced in dreams
-coma and natural sleep are not 'nearly identical,'
-never the less it is hypothesised that dmt could explain near death experiences but so could oxygen deprivation and other chemical mechanisms.

I have no idea, I was bored and just came across this at random, decided to share

Interestingly after death there is a sudden surge in electrical activity in the brain. This was discovered in the brains of decapitated rats and is hypothesised to either be a last attempt to restart the heart or the discharge of electricity across decaying cell membranes.

I find that odd, if a, say defilberator, can just about restart a human heart, then I find it unlikely that the brain could produce a voltage that intense.

But hey, the human brain is a marvel.
