Thread: New PC

    Default New PC

Asus K55VM with i7-3610QM and nVidia 630M (Actually a 540 :0). How to get most points? Running one CPU client and one GPU client?

    Thanks.

Probably, but there's a few things. First, make sure the temps are good, and make sure that folding on the GPU isn't throttling the CPU, because that may mean it would decrease your overall PPD.

How to find out about the GPU thingy? I'll download HWmonitor for temps.

37C on i7, and 32 on the GPU

(55 max now (on cpu), and 38 max on the GPU)

Make a SMP slot and a GPU slot in the v7 client and you should be fine.

Basically, to elaborate on my earlier point. (I had a midterm to run off to) Most laptops have the same cooling system for the CPU and GPU, and sometimes that cooling system isn't enough to cool both when they're at full load like they will be during folding. When that happens, usually the CPU will lower its clock speed until it can keep itself cool enough. The problem is that sometimes, it lowers itself so much that you would be better off turning off the GPU and letting the CPU fold a bit faster.

This probably isn't the case, but its still something to check out, because it can lower your PPD.
