Humorously, racisim is the more difficult to address.

If they're a pedophile I wouldn't care unless they actually practice pedophilia. We don't control our fetishes. I would imagine it would be very difficult for them to admit it and they would imagine they'll be shunned even if they don't practice it. But as long as they don't support RL child porn or practice pedophilia, no one is getting hurt and I don't care. If they are practicing pedophilia...that's a bit more difficult. I would like to think I would report them to the police. Unfortunately, I would ALSO like to believe that I would try to help them through this problem. So I'm uncertain.

With racism, I would probably try to persuade them to see things differently. But if they keep their opinion to themselves, I'd likely be okay. It's when it starts affecting their actions I would not be okay.

I try my best to avoid any conversation when there is racism or any other discrimination topic around my friends, although I DO have certain limits, which can result with me asking out them to avoid things like that and such, rarely leading into any fight.

In other words: I am neutral when those things are being discussed, unless someone pushes negative commentaries too far.

If we're just talking the occasional racist joke in good fun, then I'm ok with that, I have a lot of friends who are like that, black friends who are like that too, and they take no offence whatsoever to people joking about them or vice versa.

If any of my friends were pedos... I wouldn't put it past them actually.. But if it were ever deciphered that they were, I'd probably just help them get through it all (not the children obviously), and when they're "normal" in societies eyes, just continue being good friends.

I don't think I'd ditch any of my friends because they've got a trait that is negative, nobodies perfect.
If you think you need to ditch your friend over 1 little knack, you're a pretty shit friend.
I mean, think about what made you friends in the first place, and stick to it, and if you can never ever find a redeeming quality in a friend from then on, then maybe after that let them go, if there is no turning back.

I don't really have a 'best friend', but how I would view a closer friend, that turns out to be racist, depends on how racist they are, how it affects their actions and more importantly why they're racist. For example, if they're racist due to being influenced by other racist people, then I'd try to convince them that what the other racists say aren't necessarily true, and in fact whomever they're racist too aren't as bad as they seem.

However if one of my closer friends was racist plainly due to him/ her being a certain religion and having racist views against someone because they're from another religion, then to be honest I just wouldn't talk with them as much, since I don't want to forcefully change their views if it's due to them being a certain religion; I'm not one for trying to interfere with religious beliefs, and also because I'd feel more uncomfortable talking with someone if a moderate portion of what they say is racist, or what I would consider racist.

If their racist views led them to actually take unreasonable action against those they're racist against, however, then I wouldn't really know what to do: stay out of their way out of fear of escalating the situation? Or try to stop them in the hopes that it will work out for the better?
