no, metric has a lot of useless converting and is the reason the challenger went down

I'm having a hard time seeing how conversion in the imperial system is any better.

it goes from centimeters to meters
    that's a helluva conversion

I find it hard to believe that it was the system's fault, rather some programmer who got confused and did something wrong.

It should switch temperatures first as they are cheapest to change and Fahrenheit is foolish. They should switch to Kelvin to make it superior as that is proper metric as it starts at 0. Weights are the next easiest thing to change, followed by fluids and finally distances. Distances are the hardest and most expensive to change.

    Yes yes yes yes.

It's much more simple to use metric system than it is to use the archaic imperial system. However, that would require changing signs all across the US which in turn requires money... which we don't have much of.

    Tell me...

    1 ft = 12 inches
    5,280ft = 1 mile
    3 ft = 1 yard

    mean while...

    10mm = 1 cm (centimeter)
    10cm = 1 decimeter
    10 decimeters = 1 meter
    1,000 mm = 1 meter (m)
    10 meters = 1 dekameter (dam)
    10 dam = 1 hectometer (hk)
    100 m = 1 hk
    10 hk = 1 kilometer (km)
    1,000 m = 1 km
    1,000,000 mm = 1 km

the metric system is mostly based off of 10's and beyond that are dividable by 10

and okay, metric has a lot of units, but it's EASY

I think we have more problems to worry about than switching measurements :l

The rest of the world works in metric, as does most mainstream science [SI units].

Metric's base 10 system is easy to learn and use and its employment in the rest of the world has been successful, back in the day each country had its own really weird measuring system which was a nightmare. Even today british imperial and american imperial measurements actually differ.

They'll have to bite the bullet [or musket ball ;3] at some point.

    Raar!

    which one has more converting

  18. #12
metric works in units of 10, which can be multiplied/squared easily
imperial works in more or less random conversions that seem to have no logical connection to each other

    for instance:
express a cubic meter in cubic centimeters without using a calculator
express a cubic yard in cubic inches without using a calculator

    A cubic meter is 1003= 1 000 000 cubic centimeters
    A cubic yard is 363= 46 656 cubic inches

and there's the point, the imperial system makes conversions harder than they should be and should therefore be replaced by the metric system.

    Yes, and here's why.

The rest of the world does it. The conversions are too complicated, and if somebody does the specs in inches, and others think it's metric, boom, there goes the idea.

  24. #16
I think, if Metric is so much simpler than imperial like everyone is saying here, it will/would eventually sink into the minds of Americans and its use will/would phase out imperial. But, I think having the government decree that "Everything now going to be in Metric" would cause great confusion, something like this needs to slowly penetrate the minds of individuals.

As Dealth said, there are more things to worry about than switching to metric, but if our economy and everything stables, then sure, I guess.
