Incorrect, every two characters in a hexadecimal color system represents a value between 0 and 255, 00 being 0 and FF being 255. To calculate the number, multiply the first digit by 16 and the second digit by 1 and add them. For instance, 15 = 21. Values greater than 9 are labeled A, B, C, D, E, and F, representing 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, respectively.

Gray and other shades without color simply need the comparison between each RGB value to be equal, not every digit. Therefore 353535 is gray, because the values for red, green, and blue are all equal. This system allows a lot more than 50 shades of gray
