This shooting was terrible, how could he have gotten access to these expensive and powerful weapons and body armor?

If one person had been carrying a pistol or revolver in that theater, the casualties could have been minimized to a couple rather than seventy.

Don't rely on the police, of the 32 people killed at Virginia Tech, 30 were killed after the police got there. If I were a father and someone was invading my residence and running down the hallway into my child's bedroom with a 9mm, what would be better? Me pumping his back with buckshot from my .12 gauge or running to the phone, calling 911, talking to the operator and waiting the 10 or more minutes for the police to get to my home.

You know.. even if somehow people couldn't get their hands on guns... there would still be knifes. And knifes are still deadly.

Knives are nowhere near as deadly as guns, you can't commit a massacre with a knife.
In any case, people saying that everybody should have guns to protect themselves should think again. People die more to their own weapon than another, and if everybody is armed to the teeth then what happens when one of them snaps for some reason?
If America didn't have the gun culture in the first place then there would be A LOT less gun crime, problem is that America is stuck with a gun culture and that can't be changed quickly.

If you kill in self defence, you're still a killer, doesn't change anything.
Would you like your child to grow up without a father?
I say, if people didn't have guns, as people are suggesting, then you wouldn't need to defend anything from a 9mm, only a knife at best, and anyone can do that without killing.
Also.. That was stupid to suggest, you'd obviously shout for someone else to phone the police, don't underestimate your voice.

Yea as I've said before, even if you kill in self defense you're still causing a death. You're killing somebody who probably deserved a lot less than death, and probably could have avoided any violence altogether.

Yes asilva, if one person had managed to make a shot against a man in ballistic armour, moving and shooting back at them in the dark surrounded by tear gas and hundreds of other people to get in the way, of course they would have saved the day rather than accidentally shooting someone else.

The overwhelming probability is that you'll accidentally shoot a family member who'se walking down the hallway to your child's bedroom who you misjudge as a burglar.
