Thread: hi

  1. #1

    Default hi

    lol

(This is what will happen when Jiggmin makes a new rule like this. Now that people can treat threads the same as blogs, it opens a giant hole for pointless threads on the forum, since that's what most of the blogs contain.
People can just post a whole thread just for saying "I'm back from summer vacation" or "I lost my tooth"
What was Jiggmin thinking? Is there any way to change his mind? God..

Anyway, what do you guys think about this new rule? What do you think Jiggmin had on his mind when he came up with an ass idea like this? Please, let's talk about it.)

My mistake, I cannot read white text.
Let's discuss this, because it really is discussion-worthy.

I think people will just try to exploit it and spam threads even worse. If anything, I think the village will actually be negatively impacted

Mark the text to see the message. This was just a misunderstanding.

I can definitely see that happening... already have, actually!
I'm not quite sure what impacted his decision, but it shouldn't change too much.
Jiggmin has never mentioned anything to us about being more lax on certain threads, so we'll just keep doing what we're doing!

Yeah it'll be more abused than anything to create threads for no good reason, and when these get locked for a valid reason, such as the thread being spam, they'll use this rule to back themselves up... We've already seen some of what's gonna happen with this rule in place.
    Thanks, me!

It's a good thing that "mod discretion" was added directly to the rules by Jiggmin himself!

I stated this before, and I think its worth stating again. This would make a lot more sense if he just had a "off-topic" forum where you could pretty much post whatever you want as long as it isn't spamming threads themselves or porn. That way it wouldn't pollute the other forums but people could say what they want. Sort of like /b/ but without all the porn.

I think he's just clarifying that there is no real rule about the difference between blogs and threads.

It's like No Discussing Moderator Actions. There's no rule about it, we just assumed there was.

And once again, its why I think this forum needs clearer rules. If we just have a more clear ruleset, there will be less "BUT JIGGMIN SAID THIS" and "WELL SMODS THINK THIS" stuff if there's a very nice, well written, clearly defined ruleset for this forum.

Most things that can be blogged can be turned into a good discussion if you word it that way. If someone made a thread stating something ('I'm back from summer vacation'), rather than setting the grounds for a discussion, than they should blog it rather than thread it.

It's pretty commonplace for one/many users to urge an unsuspecting OP to 'blog it' when they sincerely want to discuss something. Jiggmin might have got tired of seeing some legit threads shot down due to this and wanted to make a point of it (I'm assuming).

Here's an example for you guys. Lets say I posted a music video of some sort, and that's all. That's material for a blog right there. However, if you want to make it a thread, you could say "Hey everyone, what is your favorite music video? Here's mine:". Thus you have just turned a statement into a discussion.

going along with the summer vacation idea, you can say something like: "I just got back from my vacation. Talk about past vacations you went on or future ones that you either plan on going on or hope to go on"

I agree with that last part.

That's where moderator discretion comes in. Staff wouldn't allow a sea of spam threads to invade.

Generally threads with an interesting first post are the ones that fill with the most life anyways. It's the community that decides which threads will get more attention.

There will always be people who try to loophole their way around the rules. If we even attempted to cover everything, it would be a veerrry long thread.
