    You can thank overseas administrations for that. Places like Bermuda are officially bound to the United Kingdom, but are competing independently. There's also the Independent Athletes, which consist of people from countries that don't have an Olympic team, like South Sudan and the former Netherlands Antilles, that broke up just last year and haven't had enough time to establish a team.

    Hell, if these administrations weren't so sparsely populated, we'd be seeing even more teams compete.

    Also I noticed palistine was competing, so the IOC must recognise some undefined regions too.

    Holy crap the Nigerian basketball team got steamrolled by US basketball 156-73. Several Olympic and American records were broken in this game.

    Also, the British basketball team (rank 43 in FIBA) did a pretty damn good job even though they lost by only one point to Spain (rank 2 in FIBA). If the British players had not made some mad decisions in the final seconds, they could've won.
