Other than that, there's nothing to assume that he was beating his son because he dropped the ball. In fact, you should pay attention to the following things:
1 His son visibly had a baseball in his hand between 0:09 and 0:18 but got hit with a belt anyways
2 None of the dialogue is hearable. You'd think that from one house away the father's screams and the child's cries of pain would be hearable.
