Thread: Why do people itch?

  1. #1

    Default Why do people itch?

In all seriousness, what would be the benefit of scratching or itching?

Of course it brings comfort, or at least for the time being, but what if it's a rash?

Since there's so many downsides of itching a rash, then why do our bodies really badly want us to itch at that area, even though it would make things worse?

Feel free to share your opinions in any way from talking about evolutionary benefits or simply just trolling around.

Some parasites make you itch because it's to their evolutionary benefit. You scratch the infected area, and then spread the disease around in your hand or ingest them so they can complete their lifecycle.

    Raar!

Thank you for that information, now I know whenever I scratch I am helping increase a parasitic infestation on my body. *takes flea bath*

It is because of the small worms living under your skin. When you put them under pressure, they cannot move for a while, since you are holding them. But like earth worms, they split up, in case they get separated, so there will come more worm to itch you.

That's why it gets worse, when you itch.

Scratching or itching is normally a response to an irritation of the nerve endings on the skin in which it would numb the endings to relieve the irritating sensation.
Simply, we think it feels good so we do it. Like some see masturbation.

Only some parasites do this, like the worms some children suffer from.

and evolutionary it's better to itch and then scratch yourself, than to have nerve endings not sensitive enough to detect actual irritants.

Similarly our eyes see things that aren't really there, but false alarms are better than not managing to see that angry lion in the bushes.

    Raar!

it's a response to skin irritation and an attempt to remove said irritation.

needless to say, balls are always irritated.
Whatever I just posted was probably meaningless

No in fact he might have a valid point. You see these worms could be of a certain parasite that remains nourished on your blood. It may be causing you to itch. In fact the main cause of these worms could in fact be a paradox that is interlocking with dimensional nodes via temporal rift and are gaining access to our flesh and blood from there. They, like mosquitos, seem to have the ability to sync their virtual selves in and out of the time line. Once there virtual bodies match a real body from the same timeline they take shape manifesting themselves in what would otherwise be nonexistent mosquito as one fully embodied as far as a paradoxical entity goes. These worms may be using the same method by which to get our blood.

You can also just say that itchy feelings are paradoxes.
