Thread: Discuss moderator actions

  1. #1

    Default Discuss moderator actions

Do you think that being a moderator lands you with a responsibility to behave suitably for that role?
In other words, if a mod were to belittle members or troll people (as other members may do to each other all the time without any consequence), would that be inappropriate?

  2. #2
Mods should behave responsibly or else people just start making threads about it.

  3. #3
Depends on which mod just because if you've been doing it your whole life it's okay to continue.

Tl;dr don't change yourself just because you got mod it's annoying.

Hmmmmh.. Hard question. I dunno if aaa does it in JV, but on acid he does xD

It's alright if the troll'd user is okay with it.

If they're being sarcastic, and the member on the other end knows it is, I see no problem.
What I find to be a good Moderator:
-Has a sense of humor and knows how to use it wisely under certain situations and conditions.
(I like Moderators whom have a personality)
-Can basically fit in the role of being a member.
-Has their profile and blogs open to all members without the need of a friend request.
-Has two views to every story and is understanding.
    -Doesn't view/take constructive critism harsly.

Being a moderator means you have to be responsible. Not all of the time, a joke or two doesn't harm anyone.
    But if a mod/smod warns as a joke or constantly trolls *cough*someone I know*cough* then that's innapropiate.
I could go into more detail but meh.

IMO, certain mods are very troll-y.
And belittling and what have you.

Remember what you said about being a friend now?
The movement in her hips strikes the hour when the poison sets in
    How do you wake?
How do you sleep at night?
    Remember what you said

I think we could get by ignoring trolly staff members, by never ever replying to them so they are aware their views have become obsolete to the community, because it's become apparant an irrate response is what some people are after for whatever dark reason that is.

No replies, no agknowledgement and no expressed irritation at their actions.

When this thread is inevitably locked with an unhappy face and a stern word, nobody read or reply to it, just carry on as if they did not exist.

    Raar!

To troll as a joke would be okay but to belittle would be wrong. Mods and admins were chosen to be the role models of JV and they wouldn't be doing their job properly and would be setting a bad example. If some mod were to call some member a retard and then to leave and a member called someone a retard and they infracted him for it, that would be plain hypocrisy which I for one wouldn't stand for.

Mods should be the role models for other members.

Being a moderator doesn't just mean following the sites rules and enforcing them; A moderator is an example for all the members, especially new ones. I don't say they should constantly be serious, but they shouldn't make jokes which might be hurtful to other people or do certain things that are considered annoying or not suitable for good site members.

Good moderators should have a personality, but not a trolly one.

Rammjet, after being on JV for 3 years you should understand that JV does not simply ignore it, at least not all the people. There will be at least 1 or 2 people not ignoring it.

I'm going to try ignoring it, I notice that friction only results if I respond to or question comments in any way that can be deamed critical.

So I'm not going to respond to any of their comments at all, because it's not a productive use of time feeding trolls, is it?

    Raar!

Moderators are looked up on. They should:
    - know when to be serious and when to joke
    - act responsibly
    - comprehend constructive criticism in a sense of improvement
    - get involved with the community
    - listen to what the majority of people think about a certain situation

Unfortunately not all moderators fit these standards.

I feel cheesy for saying this, but essentially the authoritative figures on this forum should be afraid of the judgment of other users; something that seems to have been turned around quite a few times in this forum.

I think they should just follow the rules they expect everyone else to follow. Other than that, I don't care.

I think a moderator should behave responsibly when needed, but have the liberty to goof around and make light-hearted jokes in casual circumstances. They should handle situations responsibly as would a responsible member without moderator privileges to discern whether or not one of the member's actions should be considered out of boundaries with set guidelines and not break the rules whenever they will it. Especially if a thread, blog, or post concerns moderator actions such as this one, it should be handled responsibly and not deleted on the presumptions that this thread is throwing offense to them.
