Thread: Computers in 30 years

  1. #41
Instead of making another 50 core processor they can make a 100 core processor, maybe a 150 core.

  2. #42
Like Gamo said, Siri type voice recognition, certainly on Macs and probably all computers, possibly 3D gaming within 20 years or less.
(Something funny, interesting, or even mildly entertaining should go here, but I can't think of anything at this particular moment.)

AI's will not turn against humans without having emotion programmed in, and I think anyone who would do that would be careful enough to not allow it to cause any real problems.

Though I agree that technology will most likely be our downfall, since it can pretty much eliminate all other threats.
We already have existing technology capable of destroying our species, in the form of nuclear bombs.
Mind reading, despite possibilities of covert spy missions and worlds with thinking police, could be very beneficial for people with neurological diseases who can't move, like people similar to steven hawking.

The technology for 'reading' minds has progressed lately and it's possibly to distinguish which words a person is thinking of in some, very limited, scenarios.

These words were constructed by taking data from electrodes planted inside a patient's skull.

    Raar!

That's one of those "What If" kind of technology. Is it worth introducing for the benafit of the sick and injured, and at the same time opening the possibility of for governments and places of power to use against us?

I guess, although I doubt the second, viewing that as a far-far future possibility. The current method is limited and involved electrodes in the skull, maybe future methods will be conversational and use a removable cap of electrodes- I guess it could be used for interrogation but it's arguably much less intrusive than current interrogation methods, which include torture.

Maybe we'll just have computers inside our heads.

Current best time on Rubik's 3x3 Cube: 28.55 seconds

I wouldn't say it is that far out considering how quick governments (and related) gobble up new technologies. The only real fear I have is that your "Right to remain silent" will be forever destroyed. I do agree, however, that using mind reading in interrogation is a by a mile better than inhumane torture.

My opinion is that people will think of computers as Model Ts.

Superconductivity in room temperature might be a thing for the future, would remove the noise from all the fans/cooling systems in the comp. (converting AC to DC will most probably still cause heat)

Limited mind reading like that, and even with removable caps, isn't so bad. It's only the thought that my mind could be being read by anyone without me know it which I hate.
Such limited mind reading could be very useful and very cool, without nearly as much possibility for evil uses.

My super-old laptop doesn't lag. It hasn't been turned on for quite a while.

On the internet the digital trail you leave is probably already being read- and your personality/future marketing likelihoods- reconstructed from it.
