Thread: Computers in 30 years

They will download porn one million times faster.

But seriously, many people are saying quantum computing when the people who are actually researching quibits etc admit that conventional computing probably won't ever need to use them, so unless someone thinks of an applicaiton which requires special logic I doubt it will be in every single laptop.

    Raar!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't quantum processors quite large as well?

Currently the labs are big, but the actual processing takes place in the quantum world, so in theory they can be reduced in size I suppose.

    Raar!

i just want a quatum computah cuz they are kool :v ...also the main problem with quantum computers is that whole observer effect throws the thing off and it because a normal digital computer. ..so it'll probably never happen as far as im concerned

If you send an error report, and nobody reads it, does it really exist?

    Raar!

They're going to be insane. o_o
Somewhere down the road, maybe they'll make computers that you can "type" with just by thinking.
I love my keyboard though! D:

Imagine the typos you'd make if you were distracted...they'd be very embarrassing.

    Raar!

I think input devices may change, touchscreen stuff is becoming popular now and I've heard of keyboards that can project an image on whatever you want it to. But I think in maybe 30 years time computers will move towards voice recognition because the technology is becoming alot more accurate. (Would be funny to see a Scot try and use it though) The better and faster the input device is, the faster you can do work, so businesses have been heavily supporting new input ideas.

Quantum computers are probably more than 30 years off, the quantum computers of today can only be used in very specific tasks, to you and me they are not that useful, quantum mechanics it's still in it's infancy, there are too many unknowns that need to be discovered. It's going to be a slow thing to commercialise, most of the processor and motherboard manufacturers will not work together, this slows down progress alot. I wouldn't expect to see commercial quantum computers for the next 50 years, regardless of the guff that the manufacturer's spit out.

I think computers will become smarter and more tailored towards our needs. Windows 7 was a good start but much more can be done. Computers should be able to predict what sort of files we're after and be able to guide us to them without any sort of search tool, accessibility is what throws people off from learning how to use a computer. Having an AI that can learn is not a new thing, a game called X-Com Apocalypse had a 'learning ai' which meant every fight you have, the smarter the ai will play, eventually countering you hard in the late game. It's a freakin hard game man and high concept at the time.

I still predict the manufacturer's of computer components will still do what they do best, release new stuff every week then sponsor games to make use of the technology, so we can see a slow creep towards faster computers, computers with more memory etc.

Last time they went for a 'holographic'/virtual thing. Nintendo made this and it was the biggest disaster in their history.

I'll assume someone was chasing the naked lady and fell out their window.

They'll probably do what I did with Xbox and turn computer into 3cm boxes and add 'slim' on the end.

It's very possible for humans and computers to merge in the future. Think of controlling devices with your mind...
I honestly think that technology should not keep advancing. Artificial intelligence? What if the AI turn against humans?
There's an old saying, "If something's not broken, don't fix it." So far, technology isn't broken. I mean, most of us are living comfortably with technology today, right? Higher and higher technology will most likely be our downfall.

Still, I think it would be pretty exciting. I'd rather live than survive advanced technology. Can't wait
The future isn't what it used to be.

in games so like in the racing games you control the player by your movement in real life and shoot guns when acting like shooting a gun

In 30 years, todays super computers will become a average person's computer sitting at home.

I don't want mind-reading to ever be invented, as I've stated before.
AI's will not turn against humans without having emotion programmed in, and I think anyone who would do that would be careful enough to not allow it to cause any real problems.

Though I agree that technology will most likely be our downfall, since it can pretty much eliminate all other threats.
