I don't like the way Obama crawls his way to top by simply stating that he supports something or another. Shouldn't he have actively supported gay marriage from the start? (not saying I disagree with gay marriage)

Your argument is 'Obama is good but people don't like him. Don't vote for Romney because he is bad. I like Obama because he supports gay marriage. (lol not like he's ever gonna DO anything about it)

Yeah, he should have always supported gay marriage. His indecisiveness could have been a political stunt, or maybe he really was having conflicting thoughts.
    I disagree. It's partially Bush's fault.
I don't like Obama because he supports gay marriage, although that's a plus. I don't think he can do anything about it anyway. Aren't marriage laws handled by the state?
I just think he's doing a good job and that the Republican party is in mayhem right now. Everybody seems to want different things. Honestly, I don't like any of the Republican candidates. Romney is probably the best of them, though.

From a foreign point of view, the unfortunate reality is that conservative american politics have become almost synonymous with evangelism, the rest of the world fears another leader who will go to war because he thinks it's what god wants, for example.

When politicians state they will decide the rights of people based on an ungroundable religious belief of the many, we should recognise that for what it is, a shariah law model.

Of course the politicians that americans call 'socialists' are actually conservative by foreign standards anyway.

    Raar!

    Obama.
Mitt Romney is just... horrible. Mitt Romney can have his rich self inside his own comfort of his home. He's gonna end up putting taxes on millionaires, probably because it's that HE'S one himself. So I think he wants it to be "equal" and have middle-class people get taxes.

So you're still going to go with the religion that controls your perspective/opinion? If I were you, I'd go with my own opinion and not let some religion control it. Besides, it's not like God is gonna bust into your house and put you into an infinite time loop or something.

That's tantamount to idiocy; if you want other people to except your beliefs and to force them upon other people in law you have to justify them, saying 'these are the things I believe' and expecting everyone to agree is unrealistic.

You're now on my "Meanings of Life" list. You're number #5 on the list. (No ranking whatsoever.)

    Anyways, this post.

I'm not just letting religion alone control my own opinion. I have always believed that Holy Matrimoney (Marriage) should only be between one man and one woman because everybody has the right to have a mother and a father. Also, restricting gay marriage will help protect children because gay couples can't have kids and the demands for adoption will sky rocket. This means that women who are having babies may be influenced by this and make the wrong choice of giving their kid away which brings me to my second argument, abortion. It should not be legal because think about all of the great future generation people we are destroying inside the womb because we want to take the easy way out and not have to love and nurture and battle through hard times. So instead of abortion, there should be programs to help pregnant women financially and emotionally.

Yeah, some of it but who cares? That doesn't mean it's unreasonable.

I feel like they aren't even your opinions. I feel like you were forced to accept them off of some broken ideology, and you don't even believe in them, it's just what you were taught to think.

I never actually said it wasn't Bush's fault I said that you can't say that, people are blaming Bush's faults on Obama, was wrong.
    Exactamento
It still sounds as if the swaying factor for you is the support of gay marriage. Do you think that the student council has the power to make every day recess? Of course not. Nor can Obama do much about gay marriage.

    @underline
Can't really say he did either of those.

Poor guy, even though he did say that he was done "arguing" his belief I can't say he was actually doing so. He stated his belief, he stated his preference for president, he gave a reason as to why he supported that president. He never forced any form of belief upon anyone.

EDIT: he kinda started arguing while I was typing this

When he said "...because that's my belief" someone flipped out for him not making his own decisions. For some reason no one on JV thinks people actually CHOOSE to be Catholic. You all have the impression that we were born a Catholic and that we are forced to agree.

SIDE NOTE: No 1 president can single-handedly legalize gay marraige so don't make a rash decision just because he supports something or another. Same goes for Republicans that vote for presidents only because they do not support abortion.

I was never influenced one way or the other because my mom's a democrat and my dad's a republican so we never really discussed politics much. I developed my own opinion by studying politics and looking at both sides of the argument.
