Default Vengeance (A JV & Platform Racing Story)

I've always been a fan of creative writing, and I recently got some inspiration from JV and the PR series. I decided I'd give it a go. I won't release the whole thing at once, as I expect it to have quite a few chapters. Also, I am going to try to reserve up to 6 posts.

(Skip to the bottom of this post and read how you can be a part of this story)

    Background

In a far off corner of the universe lies a unique little planet, known most commonly as “Jiggmin”. It is named after the long line of rulers. From here on out Jiggmin will be referred to as Planet Jiggmin, as to not be confused with the ruler. Planet Jiggmin has a very different way of life then what we’re used to. The planet has not yet been fully explored, and there are currently 4 widely recognized continents. The main one is called Jiggmin’s Village. The other three are Platform 1, Platform 2, and Platform 3.

The planet is filled up with many happy citizens, often called “players”, who reside on the main continent, Jiggmin’s Village. The other three planets are used solely for the planet’s main pastime; racing. Every person on the planet loves racing very much. They hold competitions, win prizes, and have fun. Since all the players have their favorite racing locations, 3 racing communities were set up, one on each Platform continent.

Platform 1, being the first continent to be discovered after the initial colonization on Jiggmin’s Village, is old, and not as active as the others.

Platform 2 has many more features than Platform 1, and ever since its release to the public, it has been the most popular.

Lastly, there is Platform 3. Filled to the brim with new features, you either liked it or you didn’t.

Overseeing Platforms 2 & 3, and Jiggmin’s Village, is Jiggmin, administrators, and moderators. Only the most trustworthy and dependable players go on to be moderators, and from there, only an elite core go on to become administrators. The mod’s and admin’s job is to punish the people who break laws. They smash rule-breakers with their ban hammers, and send them to the Dungeon of Despair for varying amounts of time.

Every player is born on to the planet with an IP (Individual Person). The people can then go on to make other accounts they can play as and use, easily accessible via passwords only they know.

Those are the basics of Planet Jiggmin, and now we will focus on an event that endangered the whole planet, and had the potential to wipe out all fun and happiness it.

    Prologue

A dark figure strode through the streets of Derron.

“I have logged on successfully. I can feel power surging through my veins,” it thought.

Nothing like it had been seen for a long time. It was obvious the account hadn’t been used recently.

The figure set off an aura of power, sending disturbance throughout the city of Derron.

The figure laughed. It was a deep, maniacal laugh, resulting in many fearful glances. Other people were skirting away, trying to avoid him.

One racers curiosity got the best of him, and he walked up to the figure.

“Who ARE you?” the young racer asked.

“I am the beginning. The beginning of a new, improved world,” the figure hissed.

The racer took a step back, not knowing what to say. Just then, the figure reached casually in to his robe, and pulled out a hammer. The racer started to let out a scream, but it was too late. The hammer had already reached him.

    Chapter 1

Dutany awoke with a start. He had had a crazy dream last night, but strangely, he could not remember any of it. He got up, stretched, and looked at the time. He had an appointment at Carina soon. He had to record his friends race. Dutany worked for one of the major newspapers in Jiggmin’s Village, The Jiggmin Inquirer. He was currently working on Platform 2, being the chief of the Platform 2 section of the newspaper.

He wanted to record his friends and use pictures of them in the newspaper tomorrow. Dutany quickly headed to the front of Carina, eager to get in. He got to the security booth, typed in his username and password, and walked through the gates as a stylish Rank 28, sporting his favorite turtle parts.

The streets of Carina were very talkative this morning. People seemed to be talking about something that had taken place last night. Dutany would’ve stopped and listened, but he only had a few minutes to get to the race track on time. He picked up his pace, and made it a little bit early. His friends had chosen to race on the Candyland track, a popular course that many people loved.

Before Dutany made it to the stands, someone tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around, and there were two of his friends; Excaliburn007 and patssruel12.

“Where’ve you been?” asked Excal. “We’ve been waiting a while.”

“Sorry I didn’t get here earlier, but according to my watch, I made it on time,” replied Dutany.

“That may be so,” Pat added, “but hurry up! I can’t wait to race!”

“One moment, just let me get my camera ready. I’ll head to the stands now. You guys can start when you’re ready,” said Dutany.

“Wait, Dutany… Did you hear about what happened last night?” asked Pat.

“I’ve heard a lot of people talking, but I’m not actually sure what happened,” Dutany said, curiosly.

“Well, you know Mars? Apparently, he was walking through the streets of Derron, when he got sent to the Dungeon of Despair… Forever. Nobody knows why, but he must’ve done something really bad. Who knows?”

“Interesting,” Dutany said. “Maybe that’s newspaper material”

“Maybe, but we’ve got to go! Come on Pat, let’s go line up. Make sure to record us, Dut,” Excal said sternly.

“Don’t worry, don’t worry,” Dutany said as he started walking away.

Dutany walked briskly up to the stands and chose a nice spot in the front row. His presence was causing some excitement, seeing as he was a very successful reporter and photographer. He noticed his friends had lined up and were ready to go, so he lifted him camera, and started recording right as the announcer yelled “GO!”

It appeared that Excal and Pats were the highest ranks. They were racing against two other users, named “bluebaron” and “Vengeance01”.

“Easy win for them,” Dutany thought.

The race was moving along swiftly. Excal was in the lead, climbing up the Licorice caves. Pat had been stalled by a gun shot from bluebaron, but he was hot on Excal’s tail. Vengeance01 wasn’t doing too well, he was pretty far behind. The crowd was excited; they always loved a good race.

    “Go Excaliburn!” one player shouted.

“Come on bluebaron, you can do it!” yelled another.

Pat had now overtaken Excal due to his item luck. He had gotten a sword. With one slice, he stalled Excal, and with another, he took a shortcut outside of Gingerbread Manor. It looked like he had the race won. All of a sudden, someone in the stands stood up and shouted.

“Look at that! Look how fast that Vengeance guy is moving! That’s crazy!” he shouted.

Sure enough, Vengeance01 was moving very swiftly. Probably too swiftly.

Dutany focused his camera on Vengeance01, not wanting to miss any of the action. Vengeance was moving incredibly fast for a rank 7. He had already pulled even with Pat!

By then, Excal and bluebaron had both stopped and were watching the other two, as they were both wondering who would win. Pats turned around and looked at Vengeance, very confused.

“Wait, how’d you get there?!?” Pats yelled, as he was still running. The finish was in sight now.

    “…”
Vengeance did not respond. Dutany was now on the edge of his seat, moving his camera with great accuracy, capturing the path of both of the racers.

All of a sudden, lightning came out of the sky and struck Pat. It appeared Vengeance had used the lightning item somehow. It seemed unlikely, though, considering the last item block was quite a ways back.

    Whispers moved through the stands.

“That Vengeance guy… Is he... Is he hacking?”

Dutany thought about it. Hacking was an illegal action in racing, highly unfair, and worthy of sending the hacker to the Dungeon of Despair. Hacking involved illegally obtaining potions, extra items, or abilities, and using them in a race to gain an unfair advantage. Dutany could not tell, though, if Vengeance01 was hacking, or just really good.

All of a sudden, the audience froze. They were all staring intently at something that had just happened in the race. Vengeance had pulled a sword out of nowhere, and used it on Pat. While he was down, Vengeance moved in close to Pat, and whispered something in his ear. Pats screamed, unable to get up. Before anyone could interfere, Vengeance had pulled a hammer out of his robe and brought it down upon Pat.

Pat disappeared in a cloud of smoke. The players recognized what had happened. Pats had been banned, and sent to the Dungeon of Despair.

Chaos erupted in the stands. Everyone was scared. How could a normal player ban someone, and why would he do it? People had already called the moderators, and they were on their way. People suddenly realized something. Vengeance01 was gone!

Dutany decided he was going to find out what had happened, and try to stop it from happening again. He realized how lucky he was to get the whole thing on tape. He made his way up to Excaliburn, an idea having sprouted in his head.

“Excal, I got the whole thing on video! I think the first step to find out what happened is to find out if the Vengeance guy was really hacking. Then, we can find out if he was cheating, or if he really has the power to ban people like that. I figure if he was hacking in the race, then he hacked the mod abilities!” Dutany said, quickly.

“Sounds good. Maybe we could talk to Suuper. He’s pretty good with these kinds of things. He should be able to recognize if he was hacking or not,” said Excal.

Suuper was a well-known player, who knew how to hack. However, he only used his powers for good.

“Yeah, let’s do that. But wow, it really stinks how that had to happen to Pat. I wonder if there’s any way he can get out of the Dungeon…,” said Dutany.

“Maybe, but there’s nothing we can do. Maybe the mods will look in to it,” replied Excaliburn.
With that, Dutany and Excal were off to see Suuper.

    _____

    Chapter 2
    “So, is he hacking?”

“I don’t know for sure. I’m going to have to watch it in super-slow motion,” replied Suuper.

Several minutes later, the video recording of the race had been gone through again, but this time in slow motion.

Suuper had a strange look on his face as he said,”…No. Vengeance01 is not hacking.”

    Dutany and Excaliburn gasped.

“What? How is that possible?!?” cried Excal.

“I don’t know… I just don’t know,” said Suuper. “What I do know is that there is no way he was hacking to get those items in the race. If he had been using illegal methods, he would have smuggled them in to the race. It was obvious to tell, at least with the sword, that that was not the case. It just appeared.”

    “And his speed?” asked Dutany.

“That I cannot explain,” said Suuper.

The players sat I silence, deep in thought. After a few minutes, though, Suuper startled the others with a sudden outcry.

“Wait, play back the video! And slowly!” Suuper insisted.

Dutany set the video back to the beginning and played it at 25% the normal speed.

“What are you looking for?” Dutany asked.

    “Shh, be quiet!” Suuper urged.

    Another minute passed.

“There, pause it there!” Suuper shouted.

    Dutany paused it.

“No, back up about a half of a second,” Souper said.

Dutany did as he was told. The screen was on a close up of Vengeance01.

“Well, Dutany, I admire your skills with a camera. You had a close up on Vengeance at a vital moment, allowing us to see his secret. Well, one of his secrets,” said Suuper.

“What is it? I don’t see anything!” Excal said, rather impatiently.

“Look at his hat,” Suuper said, while pointing.

“That’s just a regular party hat,” Dutany said, annoyed. “Come on, Suuper.”

“No, look at the top of it. There’s a small probe. It appears only for a quarter of a second in the video. It came up right as Vengeance used the lightning.”

“How… What… How does he have a hat like that?” stuttered Excal.

“I don’t know,” Suuper said plainly.

“Does that explain his moderator abilities too?” Dutany asked excitedly.

“Sadly, no. No hat could ever, possibly do that. He has a real and legitimate ban hammer,” Suuper said.

“But... He’s only a member! How does he have a ban hammer?” asked Dutany.

“That, I do not know,” said Suuper. “I suggest you go talk to someone else, someone who knows more about moderators. Also, I’m curious to know what account number Vengeance has…”

“I know just the guy. We can go see aaaaaa123456789. He’s a mod, and I think he can see account numbers. Let’s go talk to him,” suggested Dutany.

    “Yeah, let’s go,” said Excal.

“You guys go on without me. I want to test something…,” said Suuper.

    “Suit yourself,” said Dutany.

Dutany and Excaliburn walked out of Suuper’s house and headed down the driveway, heading to Mainstreet. Aaa lived in an old run-down mansion that used to belong to an admin, before he retired. He was also, luckily, one of the most easy mods to talk to, because he liked to hang with the public.

The twosome stopped at a new poster and read it. It stated “Anyone with any information on Vengeance01 or his antics, please post a message outside Admin Beach. A sparkling reward of a moldy banana will be given to you.”

“They’re offering a moldy banana?” chuckled Excal.

“It’s better than the time they offered a used tissue to anyone who had any information on UAX,” laughed Dutany.

A few minutes later, they made it to the residence of aaa. They knocked on the door. Nobody came.

They knocked again, louder. They heard someone running to the door. Aaa opened the door, looking groggy.

“Don’t you know I’m nocturnal?” groaned aaa.

“Oops, sorry,” said Dutany. “Anyways, can we come in? We have a few questions to ask you.”

“Sure, sure. Come right in,” aaa said, with a hint of sarcasm.

Dutany and Excal pretended they were oblivious and walked in, smirking.

“So, you know about Vengeance01, right?” asked Dutany.

“Of course! Who hasn’t? That guy has been so much trouble lately… Yesterday alone, he sent 4 people to the Dungeon of Despair! Megabrody5000, Jerevand, Dealth, and theblueberryman! It’s crazy!” said aaa.

“Do you happen to know what account number he is?” asked Dutany.

“Well, here’s the weird part. This morning, I was curious and decided to look… Vengeance01 is the second account that was ever made,” said aaa.

    “Only the second?!?” shouted Excal.

“Yes, weirdly. And nobody has ever seen him before now,” said aaa.

“Woah. Also… What can you tell us about ban hammers,” asked Dutany.

“Well, when someone becomes a mod, they are handed a ban hammer. From there, they use the ban hammer and it fits perfectly to them. Nobody else can use it,” said aaa.

“This just isn’t adding up. Vengeance used a ban hammer, but it couldn’t have been someone else’s, then. I’m so confused,” said Dutany.

“Hmm, me too. Maybe you could go check the library?” suggested aaa.

There was only one library on the continent, the Library of Ancients. They call it that because nobody uses libraries any more, they just do things electronically.

“Yeah, that’s an idea,” said Dutany. “But I don’t know what we should look for.”

“Well, if you aren’t going to the library, can you at least pick up my dry cleaning?” asked aaa.

“Umm, of course we’re going to the library!” said Excal. “Isn’t that right, Dutany?”

“Yep… Yeah. Er, we should go now,” said Dutany.

    And with that, they left.

    Chapter 3

The library was an old run-down building. Some might even call it a shack, although it is bigger than it looks. The library was built a long time ago, by the architect Pounce. Pounce has never taken his job seriously, always spending more time staring at his cat and eating lemons then providing any serious designs. However, architects were hard to come by back then, so they had picked his (poor) design. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but he forgot to calculate for a lot of excess weight. Because of this, the building sinks about 2 inches every year. Back to current day, the library is about two thirds underground.

“Well this looks… Fancy?” said Dutany, not wanting to hurt anyone’s feeling. He wasn’t sure who, if anyone was lurking in the nearby shadows.

“You can hardly call it a library! It’s more like an ancient ruin!” complained Excaliburn.

“Well, they don’t call it the Library of Ancients for nothing,” chuckled Dutany.

They finally mustered up the courage to walk in. Dutany opened the door.

“After you,” he gestured to Excal.

    “Fine,” said Excal.

Excal walked in, Dutany followed. They traveled about four paces when Dutany looked over his shoulders back at the door. He wouldn’t admit it, but he wouldn’t put it past anybody that the door would close and lock itself. The place seemed creepy enough. However, the door didn’t close.

“Well, don’t just stand there! Close the door! It’s cold out there!” said an unknown voice all-of-a-sudden.

    “Wh-who said that?” stammered Excal.

“Well, it’s either the bookkeeper or Jiggmin. Hint: it’s not Jiggmin,” said the “bookkeeper”, chuckling at his own joke.

“Oh, you work here?” asked Dutany.

“Yep! I’m the only employee here, but it suits me well,” the bookkeeper said. “As you can tell by all the dust, we don’t have a janitorial service.”

“This might sound weird, but… Do you have any books on ban-hammer legends, lost ban-hammers, or ban-hammer theft?” asked Dutany.

“Clever, clever. This “Vengeance” fiasco has been going on for a while, and you’re the only one to think to check out the old library. As a matter of fact, I was waiting for someone like you. In fact… I know a book that might help you.” The bookkeeper started heading towards the jungle of bookshelves.

“Wait! Can we at least know your name?” asked Dutany.

“Well, I’m no other then ~APM-01~! But you can call me APM. I’ve been working here ever since this library was built. Some would say I’m… “ancient””

“Nice to meet you, and thanks! We’d love to see that book,” said Excaliburn.

APM hurried off, deep into the labyrinth of books.

“He seems like a fishy character, don’t you think?” asked Excal.

“He seems innocent enough,” said Dutany. “He probably just gets lonely. We might be the first visitors he’s had in a while.”

    “Yeah…,” said Excal.

A few minutes later, APM came back.

“You might want to check page 238, paragraph 2,” said APM. “Also, I highly suggest you only read (and keep) that book in a very safe place. There’s quite a bit of valuable information in there.”

“Thanks again. Also… You mentioned Vengeance. What do you know about him?” asked Dutany.

“You ARE a clever one, aren’t you?” said APM. “I know a bit of information, which may or may not be relevant. Sit down,” said APM.

“I’m an old member. Right when I joined, there was a little “urban legend”. It quickly died down, but I still remember. In fact, I might be the only one that remembers. There had been rumors of an all-powerful member. Someone who could ban without being a mod. A member destined to be evil. Nobody had ever seen him, and nobody knows how this rumor started. It may or may not be derived from truth. There was talk that this member, with an unknown name, had stolen a ban hammer,” APM concluded.

“Like I said, however, this may or not be true or relevant. Like I said, this stopped being discussed soon after I joined. I had found it suspicious, and had committed it to memory. That is all,” said APM

“…Woah. That is… Scary,” said Excal.

“Yeah, but who knows if it’s true. Sure, it might be about this Vengeance guy. Or, Vengeance could be somebody pulling a mean prank. Or he could be a fake, imposter, just trying to scare people. In fact, we might never know,” said Dutany.

“Don’t kid yourself, Dutany,” said APM. (Dutany had never mentioned his name to him) “I know you are of… Say… Inquisitive nature. You’re a reporter. You’ve started this case, and you’re going to finish it. I know it. You know it. And maybe somebody else knows it, I’m not really sure. The point is, Dutany, you and Excal might be the only people to stop this Vengeance guy, if he is a serious threat.”

    “Point taken,” said Dutany.

A while later, Dutany and Excal were in a secluded part of the Village. They were hiding in the basement of the museum, a popular place for members to show off art. In fact, the building was right next to an apple tree forest, a place often called “Artistry Orchard”. They would’ve started reading sooner, but they couldn’t figure out where to hide. Excal had kept insisting on inside the local pizzeria, but Dutany just assumed he was hungry and had shut the idea down.

“Well, let’s get on with it. I’m hungry!” Excal whispered loudly.

Dutany silently complimented himself on his correct guess.

“Ok, ok,” said Dutany. He turned to the right page, pulled out his flashlight, and started reading.

“Chapter 58: Ban Hammers. Part 4: Myths and mysteries. Section 2: Logical Reasoning. Many people have wondered if there is a way to have a ban hammer unfairly, or, that is, have a ban hammer without being a mod. These people might never have their question answered. However, there are speculations. When somebody is made a mod, they don’t automatically get a ban hammer. They have to have one forged and fitted to them. Some people think it would be possible to steal a ban hammer in between the ‘forging’ and ‘fitting’ stages. You’d think it would be possible, but there are some things to consider. For instance, the blacksmith has state-of-the-art security, including cameras, security officers, and everything else you could think of.

Some people go even farther with their speculations. Only some people fall in to this group, mostly a few old veterans. They say they remember security didn’t always used to be top-notch. In fact, they say there didn’t even used to be security!

From this information we can conclude that, today, it would be impossible to steal a ban hammer. However, it might have been done in the past. We will never know.”

    “That’s crazy!” said Excal.

“Yes, but it does fit,” said Dutany. “Remember how aaa said that Vengeance01 was the second account ever made? Maybe he stole the ban hammer a long time ago.”

“That’s a lot to assume. Let’s think about it over lunch,” said Excal, his hunger getting the best of him.

They climbed out of their hidden location, only to find chaos. The city appeared to be in turmoil. People were running, screaming.

Dutany quickly pulled somebody out of their path, seeing who it was. He wanted to find out what was going on. He looked at the face, and realized it was one of his closer friends, bls1999~.

“Hey! bls! What happened here?” asked Dutany.

“You’ll never believe it. Suuper got ban-hammered by the ‘Vengeance’ guy!”

Dutany was thinking. Was Vengeance on to him and Excal, or was it just chance. He finally thought up a response and said “Well, that is believable. He’s banned others before.”

“That’s not the crazy part, though. Here’s what I saw. Aaaaaa123456789 was walking along, muttering to himself about laundry. All of a sudden, Vengeance jumped out and banned him! A mod! He banned a mod!”

    Vengeance was on to them.

I already know the whole plot for the story, and if it seems familiar now, it should be very different later on. Anyways, thanks.
