Thread: Internet Explorer 9

    Default Internet Explorer 9

So, you've probably heard that Microsoft is coming out with the 9th version of Internet Explorer. The new version promises to be faster, easier to navigate, and a couple cool additions. You can read all about it here.
    Here's the commercial:

One thing's for sure, we ALL love the song on the commercial. But what about the actual browser? Is it going to be plain old Internet Explorer, or is it going to be different?
P.S. The song in the commercial is Alex Clare: Too Close.
(Something funny, interesting, or even mildly entertaining should go here, but I can't think of anything at this particular moment.)

    ...

It's already been released. Long ago.

    And it's shit.

    Never...

    Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, anything but Internet Expl0der, please ;-;
It's probably the top browser in the world to be used only to download another browser.

It's been said many times over, but I just love that song <3

    Didn't they promise a better browser with 8? ...and 7, and 6, and 5, and 4, and 3, and 2...
They always turn out to be terrible, they should just abandon the browser and maybe it will work better without even being there

The only reason IE is so popular is that it is installed by default on Windows. That's why I wish the US would pass a similar law to what Europe has, requiring Microsoft to offer users a choice. At least that way non-tech savvy users would at least know that there were other options.

I'm just happy that Alex Clare finally got his voice big XD Go hear the Nadastorm remix! :3

In reply to everyone who ever rants about the poopness of I.E., it's because I.E. is built to be super simple and reasonable to use in schools and offices whilst keeping track of the peoples and easily changing mass settings.
Now i'm not saying this because I use I.E. on a regular basis (along with mozilla and opera, i don't actually know why i use 3), but it's because it's what i think is the truth... or i'm extremely tired.

It's just anti-trust laws, really. The US Justice Department prosecuted Microsoft for it in the 90s, but really nothing happened.

    IE. Simple and reasonable.

Words that should never be used together.

One year ago, my school recently let the computers have both Firefox and I.E.
I remember asking some tech guy for the school a couple years back, "How come you don't put Firefox on the bulk of the computers?" He said, "Some things like Citrix and other plugins may be incompatible"
My mind was like, "lolwut? Are you kidding me?" but I guess I had somewhat of an impact on the school by asking him that question.

As tired as I am, i don't understand why simple and reasonable shouldnt be used together. If you reffered to "IE, simple and reasonable", those are 5 words... or three because IE is an abbreviation, not a word.

I have to say that I've never had any problems with plugins and stuff on Firefox that can't be fixed with a little bit of tinkering. If anything I get better performance on it than I can with IE.

Lol, I meant "IE" with "simple and reasonable." You're right, I could have phrased that better.

One thing that annoys me is that when you have fresh install of a OS, download Firefox, go to a Flash based site, and it asks if you want to install the missing plugin, Adobe Flash Player, the add-on wizard tries to find flash to download, but it eventually fails. It instead says to go to the adobe.com and download from there ._.
Just wonder why it's one of those things that Firefox hasn't fixed for quite some time.

Hmm...is this on Windows, Linux, or OSX? On Linux I've never had any problems installing Flash, although I usually install it separately from Firefox so it will be automatically be set up on (most) other browsers I use.

    OSX, not sure.
    Windows and Linux, yes.
However, I do the same thing in bold. :3

I like it because when I had my old IE, there was a bug where it would literally take me over 10 minutes to open a new tab.
It would say About:Tabs for a long time

I always use IE8 as a browser in my computer. I just use no additional features -- heck, I don't even keep favorites! So yeah, the simplicity and lack of added features is actually appealing to me.
As for it being slow, that's bullshit. The conection latency is several times higher than any internal processing time, so that's just impossible, unless you use caches and so on -- but I'd rather keep my pages uncached.
As for the compatibility... IE8 is compatible with all standards. The problems arise when pages aren't fully compliant, and use stuff that only works in Firerox and/or Chrome. But that's on the web designers, not on the browser.
