I'm pretty sure they're the leaders of the Equalists, though it's a guess.
2. What would you say Korra's main element is? Do you think she's best at bending fire, water or earth?
I would think earth, as she is good at the physical side of being the Avatar. Also, she seems to be having trouble with airbending, which is the opposite element of earth.

Actually, Appa's most likely dead. Note the different name Tenzin called his flying bison. But I did read somewhere that Aang found a colony of winged-lemurs and flying bisons, allowing for Appa to reproduce.
