There's always hype over each new Mario game, and it always turns out the same, regardless of the levels being slightly different each time. Not to be rude, but you should have read the comments and/or the thread more carefully.
At least 3D land got rid of the "World Themes" though.

as long as it's fun i don't see why it should stop. just because the games look the same doesn't mean it should stop. and they DON'T look the same because of super mario galaxy coming along and changing the whole thing. mario is a great series and it shouldn't end

Super Mario Galaxy was pretty fun.
Mario Kart Wii was probably one of the best Mario Karts.

Jesus Christ people in this thread don't seem to be thinking.

Firstly, if you play a Mario game for the story, you're already doing it wrong. Go play MGS. It has a brilliant story and good gameplay. You'll have fun.

That being said, complaints of "All you do is save the Princess" are frankly asinine. It is a plot that is convenient to make the story go. Oh look at all this time the developers have to now focus on GAMEPLAY. You know, that one thing. That you play games for. Yeah, that's pretty cool and kind of important.

Mario games are the standard platformer, and in my opinion they pretty much do it the best always. I don't believe I have played a MAIN SERIES Mario game that I didn't have a shitton of fun in (Excluding SMB2 which isn't actually a Mario game).

Are they milking Mario for cash? Yeah, yeah they are. WHY IS THAT A BAD THING WHEN QUALITY STAYS THE SAME?

Mario games are fun. SMG2 is, in fact, my favorite platformer. Of all time. I think after tweaking the formula a bit over and over they've finally done it perfectly.

And yes, the formula is GENERALLY the same with a few exceptions (Sunshine, anyone?) But think about this. How many times have game series hit a stride and then tried something WAY different and completely brought an end to themselves?

Innovation is good. Consistency is also good. I want to keep the good, get rid of the bad, and tweak the gameplay in my games. An occassionaly COMPLETELY innovative game is good, and yeah, Mario could do with more of them (I loved Sunshine), but that doesn't mean that if you only stick to tweaking and your games are still phenomenal that you should just stop.

Does Mario have too many spinoffs? Probably. I don't need 22 Mario Parties.

Should Mario stop making games? Not in the slightest.

Focus on the main series. Give me more NSMB and SMG's and the like.

    I totally agree.
