Thread: Temporary Moderator Guidelines

Maybe you should add a tiny bit about asking to be temp'd?
    Great mini guide though c:

I thought that was going to be a skyrim joke, however, I don't think that many people's first time is any good, but you learn from the mistakes and improve for next time.

Having guides like these really help when you're actually temping, so thanks!
For temps out there, I recommend using verbal warnings for not to serious offences. I also think the best way to solve a bad situation (whether you're temping or not (although it does work better when you are temping)) is to promote discussion by changing the subject to something that everyone can join in.

Another thing is that it does get easier. I'll be honest, and maybe it's just me, but I was a bit nervous the first time I got temped (nostalgia moment) and was making pretty newbie mistakes, but once you've settled in or done it again you start having a bit more fun, and that's what PR2 is about, right?

Yeah, first temps can be quite a rough experience... I remember my second temp, when I tried out one of those "bold the chat" commands in main, and I failed with it... killed the chat for a minute and a half. I still remember about that...

That didn't happen to be me who tricked you into entering '<', did it? xD
(Pro tip: temps don't put '<' in the ban reason)

Nope, it was me and myself alone. I just entered the incorrect thing.

    My mistake.

I think I tricked L2D and USB or something into entering '<' into the ban reason.
Found it after Trav tried to ban 'I <3 Jazza' :3

Couple of things I can add.
    1. If people continue to go outwith the rules after warning 3 your best bet is to continue with warning 3 and contact a moderator/admin, it's the best and only thing you can do if the same behaviour from the same member continues.
    2. This doesn't mean though that you don't try to settle them, most arguments can be settled with agreements, not punishments, try to drag them away from arguments.
ex. Modsrsux: Down with mods! Do them in! Boil their bones and fry their skin!
Me: A fan of Charles Dickens are you?
Modsrsux: Oh yes, I find his literature quite enthralling.
    3. As far as somethings I've read here go, well, attempting to change the chat and such, or attempting to put in some sort of 'ban code' or something like that, just making stuff up at this point, is highly likely to rule you out as a temp again in future, you're supposed to be doing your job, not causing flame in the chat because you've made all the text size 69.
    4. When we say 'have fun', we mean 'make sure people have fun', having fun is different for everyone, and some people make the mistake of following the rules too closely, when you find yourself in a situation where you don't know what to do the best course of action is to do what your mind says, a good sense of judgment is really needed in mods, and if you don't mind me saying some mods are lacking in it.
Ex. xSexyliciousx: *Spamming for 5 minutes straight without stopping after warnings, no mod has shown up*
Me: Sexy, you really need to think about what you're doing here, if you've came to this game to have fun, what fun is this? This is a racing game, and all you're doing is breaking ties with all the racers, is that really fun? Come on, lets grab some people and have a race, in the true spirit of the game.

Well, that's all that springs to mind, I temped a little bit back when the promotions were going on, I was a candidate that never made it through, was disappointed back then but I grew to realise, modding isn't for everyone, it can be really stressful, it gave me new-found appreciation of some mods, especially those working hard as temps, it's a very difficult thing keep things running smoothly, especially with the little power temps have, but remember what I've said, power isn't everything.

Just so you know, warnings aren't recorded... to be honest, we cannot even check how many warnings a player has been given. Warnings are there to make sure people know they broke the rules, and to (as the name says) warn them about the chance of a ban if they continue on with what they're doing.

    Glad you guys like it.
Remember, Ben came up with most of this.
Claire's temp guide is also still a fantastic reference.

Saw your original post. Anyways I just researched that person and he was demodded. Why? I don't really know.

Claire's guide for the "clueless temp" is quite different.

Claires is a lot more complex and detailed, if it's your first time, this would be a lot easier to read XD
