I own a HP Pavillion DV6000 with a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, around 6 gigs of memory and 772 megabytes on my D drive.

I laugh at everyone who doesn't know what the "folding" process is. You silly geneticist wannabes. It occurs during mitosis/meiosis and it happens to DNA. The DNA could accidentally get a substitution or a frame shift in its code and this will cause problems when a specific gene needs to be computed. (Frame shift is probably the worst one because an entire code can be messed up rather than a single nucleotide) Alzheimer's is not something you can randomly get. It's an autosomal dominant (which means a lot of people get it) disease, which means if one of your parents passes off a dominant gene for Alzheimer's and your other parent passes a recessive gene (which means their offspring will not get Alzheimer's from that certain gene), then the offspring will still have Alzheimer's. It's one of the most difficult diseases to track because it acts upon a person in their later years.

Basically, your explanation of "folding" in DNA is rather misleading.

Before I start my rant on cancer, note that a mutation (the substitution or frame shift) will not hurt DNA, but the genes that are produced when the code is copied.

For cancer, there are several causes for it when not killed properly. First of all, your cells can program itself dead with a gene. (Yay science!) But when radiation or an improperly copied gene in meiosis/mitosis damages the entire code, your cell would have to kill itself. Cancer is both the out-of-control growth of cells because of its outrageous rate of producing the wrong code and the inability to shut down the cell's programming.

I don't get it. People try to understand folding, there's nothing wrong with that. To be honest, its a very complicated subject that we don't actually know very much about, and you can't blame people here for trying to learn what exactly they are folding for. And you are WRONG. DNA has nothing to do with it, mutations in the DNA have nothing to do with protein folding, which is just when a 2D protein folds itself into a more compact 3D structure, which is what we are looking for.

However, that is not all that F@H does. It looks at many different kinds of proteins, including some of which are involved in the forming of cancer. It also looks at proteins that can cause things such as autism, Alzheimer's, and Type II diabetes.

Yesterday I started using Folding@Home on my Playstation 3 system, and I'm folding for Team Jiggmin of course. I just have a single question about this. My username on Platform Racing 2 is ~Emperor~. When I wrote this name in the "Donor name" box, these symbols ~ in front of and after the name automatically became this -. So my donor got changed to -Emperor-. Will it be registered as the same name as my real username, or will it be two different donors? If so, is there a way to fix this? If not I won't get any of the points!
Hope someone can give me an answer!

If you have a problem with it and do not receive a prize in pr2, you should pm jiggmin and he can manually give the prize
