Thread: Does god exist?

The only argument that I would have is that each is defending the belief that they grew up with.
Every religion believes in something, so what makes your God better than someone else's God? This simply says to me it's it's all a bunch of ways to calm and maintain groups of followers and to make money.

Then I do not care. Unfortunately, the belief in a deity often causes both of those. Therefore, it is an issue.
It's not an issue at all. What is an issue is when people try to take it away.

Christianity is not about making money... at all

People being against gay marriage isn't an issue?

I agree, I have no right to take away people's happiness if they find it in God. I DO have the right to say a religion is wrong if it infringes on rights or impedes progress.

That's almost like saying opinions are bad.

    Uh, sometimes opinions are bad...
If somebody has the belief, the opinion, that you should be denied some sort of rights because of... say, your skin color, wouldn't you say that is a bad opinion?
    The switch is now OFF.

...No. Of course I disagree with it, and most people would. Just because somebody is against you does not make it bad. I guess some moral laws exist, but we all have a right to think what we want to think.

Would you say the statement "I hate black people" is bad?

It's an opinion. It is also intolerant. That is bad.

When people actively work for taking away others rights, it is bad.

We have to look at all perspectives. It is bad to you, but not bad to them. "bad" is not universal. Take voting for example.

Yeah, and murder isn't bad to a sociopath.

Bad is truly subjective. But that doesn't mean there aren't societal agreements on what bad is. Intolerance, in general, is bad.

This really isn't getting anywhere. Religion can play a role in somebody's opinion. What they think is their business. Trying to take away religion just because they believe something you don't is going to cause more problems than just leaving it there. It is just the way the world is. Besides, Christianity is not pure evil like some people make it out to be.

You're putting words in my mouth. I never said it was pure evil. What people think is their business. When they PUSH IT on someone, suddenly it is public. You don't like gay marriage? Fine, keep it to yourself. Don't petition for bills against it.

NOTE: Saying "It is just the way the world is" is a cop-out. It's an excuse to not try.

I never said that you said it was pure evil, but that is what some people think. Christianity/Religion in specific doesn't "push their opinions". Sure they will try to get other people to think what they think, but that is just the world itself. Even with other random opinions. (take mac vs pc for instance) It seriously is just the way the world happens. There is AlWAYS going to be religion. You and I both know it. Religious people have amounts of rights as others, and no less. They are allowed to vote just as other people are able to

"Christianity/Religion in general doesn't "push their opinions"."

That's...that's a joke, right? Almost every religious person I know tries to convert me.

Mac vs. PC debates does not take away other peoples rights.

You have the freedom of religion. The freedom should not allow you to take away other peoples freedom.

Just because a religion has more people in it does not mean their viewpoint is "right". But allowing them to vote to take away others freedoms implies that they are.

NOTE: I am not saying religious people shouldn't vote. I'm saying that issues that only exist because of religious preference shouldn't be issues.

EDIT 2: If we played by those rules, where everything is up for a vote, slavery would still be legal. It took a definitive actions from the president to free slaves AGAINST popular opinion. Because slavery is racist and intolerant. (Also, because he wouldn't win the war otherwise >_>)

you can believe whatever you want! Honestly, I DON'T CARE if religious people try to "convert" you or whatever. Sorry if I sound rude, but this argument is impossible. I have gotten calls with people asking me to vote for whoever. It doesn't take away our rights and it doesn't take away yours! If people "try" and take away your rights, I cannot do anything about it! My church does not tell me to go door to door asking people to convert. In fact, it helps me quite a bit. What do you want to do? Try to wipe it all out? That won't solve any problems. Maybe have government shoot the people that try to express their opinions? That won't help either!

I agree as much you do that no religion should be able to force to you to convert. They still have rights to believe what they want. That's what makes America a happy place.

Requesting that you vote a certain way DOESN'T TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHTS. THAT is what the issue is. Primarily because of Christianity, gay marriage is illegal.

If you paid attention at all, I said religion is fine AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T TRY TO TAKE AWAY RIGHTS (Or impede progress).

What do I want? I want gay marriage to be legal. I want petitions to stop. I want the government to go over the heads of the American public, because it is primarily Christian, and allow homosexuals to live a happy life without intolerance. But thank for suggesting ever other extreme. I'm sure those are the only viable solutions.

Well I guess gay marriage really does not effect me in any way. So I really don't care.

Hey all, lets end this thread today. We cannot know with certainty if God or Christ exists. Then again they COULD. Then again their COULD be a giant reptilian bird in charge or everything. Can we be certain there isn't? NO, so it's pointless to talk about. Oh, and all we drink is Dr. Pepper, it's not Cola, and it's not Root Beer.
