Lets put wether god exists or not aside and ask, is it a bad thing to believe in a god? It makes people happy doesn't it?

Can you please explain what I am wrong about. Maybe something that could prove me wrong?

No but the ones in doubt like Suuper and DaFlamingPotato had good use of this...
And we bother to discuss this topic because we have opinions in it and find it rather interesting.

Tell that to the millions of people who've suffered at the hands of the LRA, or countless other examples were religion has incited violence or terrorism.

I said belief in god, not religion. You mis-understood me o-O I hate religion, but the belief in god =/= religion

It's good in some cases, and bad in others.
People can be very good people and believe in god, or people can be very bad people who believe in god.

Lots of religions are centred around a single god

I think what he means is that he believes in the concept of a god but doesn't know which religion to believe in, or he wants to create his own new religion idk

This thread's about the Christian God (I assume), so I assumed that he meant the Christian God.

I'm now really confused and am going to make some tea and watch Mock the Week. saying 'bye' would sound too childish right now. bye.

Ergh, blackie, actually learn some facts before arguing back. 'we're assuming the earth had a catalyst', no we're not; the minerals and clays which are abundunt on earth's surface, and have been for billions of years, are the catalysts used in such reactions. I'm wondering if you even know what catalysis means.

It feels like you're just trawling through christian websites written by people who don't understand the respective subject matter, and then copy-pastering their arguments here without actually knowing what they mean.
By contrast I'm using chemistry A level, new scientist, the bbc, nasa, the university of georgia and extracts from scientific journals to answer the questions as best I can, but it really is self-defeting when I explain what catalysis is, and then you assert 'but there were no catalysts', when the catalysts we're speaking of are known to have been prevalent .

    Raar!

If you get angry at people because they don't believe the same as you, it's a bad thing.

But overall, it makes you happier to put your trust in someone.

Unless bad stuff happens to you and you begin to feel 'god' is punishing you for something, it can become distressing. I don't think people who are religious are any happier on average than people who aren't.

You don't have to be in a religion to believe in a god. It's not "I don't know what religion to choose" it's "I dissaprove of the concept of religion but I believe in somone that may be considered a 'god' wether he created everything or not".

Believing in a god sort of qualifies as religious for me, but if you don't agree with any of the religions going around then I can't see why you'd believe in God in the first place :S

there can still be a god without a religion, they are not the same idea but two seperate ideas which can be used together. Religion doesn't have to even revolve around god either, it could be to an object if you want.

religion is for those who worship. I do not worship a god I just simply believe in one.

yea but in modern society if you believe in god you're known as religious and if you believe in higher forces of another kind you're spiritual, I know religious entails worship but nowadays the word is used to describe theists more often.
