There's a higher chance of diamonds though, plus you'll run into lava lakes anywhere, just depends where you are.
I got out successfully after like, an hour because I ran out of building supplies, but I got tons of coal and iron in the process! It also gave me time to work on my house:

It best to start this at bedrock level ( thats like layer 6 right ) and make it up to layer 12 so you can get all the diamonds in that area :3
And its really un-likely that diamond will spawn in that little gray area and if it does there is a high chance that it will be more than just one block and spawn outside that little area.
When I mine, i have one of those pickaxes that one click destroys everything you're aimed at.. so.. i just run forward at blocks. XD
that pickaxe doesn't exist.

IN other words:
~You are at the top of the mountain.
~When you use the portal from top of mountain, you will end up in a high location in the Nether
~That sometimes means that you are above a large sea of lava with no Netherrack around you.
~Also: Notice how there's extra obsidian around the floor of the portal.
I'm just guessing that the extra obsidian might make you freeze, but then again, the first time you enter the Nether, it should have froze.
(I don't even play MC btw, so I'm not sure if it helps. But for better survival in the Nether, I'd rather put the Nether Portal at the base of the mountain, where your wheat farm is.)
Exactly why I dig down all the way to bedrock. Your guarenteed to find diamonds because it's far enough and you don't have to deal with mobs, and the lava for the most part.

You can now use “/publish” to open your single-player game for LAN friends to join. This is still very much work in progress, so it lacks some necessary settings such as what game mode your friends will get, and if they should be able to use cheats or not. Also, the “/publish” command is temporary, you can’t even access it if you haven’t enabled cheats =)
The Ender Chest has been changed to have an inventory per player and not per world. Also, knocking down the chest will break it into 8 obsidian, unless you have Silk Touch.
The texture pack folder button now works on Mac

Found 2 zombie spawners next to each other right near the surface. Made a mob spawn trap and now getting tons of exp Legit
so I thought "1.8pre maps were great, I'm gonna go play that"
two problems:
1. MCNostalgia doesn't put the old sounds in. Nor does it leave the new sounds in. The game was completely silent.
2. After 3 worlds, I had come across absolutely no oceans.
DAMN YOU BADLY MADE DOWNGRADE TOOL.
