Opened my inventory at night and played Castle Crashers with him for 10 minutes until night was over

You have to delete the whole folder to update.
So yes, it is a completely clean folder.

No, you only have to delete the minecraft.jar/bin folder to update, and if you force update it will create a brand new bin folder anyways. It's in there all the game files are, so there is absolutely no reason for the bug to happen with you even after you deleted all the game files. The rest of the files in the .Minecraft folder are just your saves, option setting, texture packs etc, nothing that would affect the game itself in a large way.

Have you tried other worlds? Have you tried not using a snapshot (snapshots are not made to be playable full releases, but quickly made features that most likely has loads of bugs)? What version of Java are you running? Are you using the legit game? What's your hardware?

Either you are bullshitting us or you have a really unique problem that I can't explain.

Lol I don't even play, yet I know some of the redstone circuitry stuff.
