Imagine yourself entering the new dungeon in 1.8. It's pitch black and you place a torch. You see something interesting since it's the new update. You go and check out what it is, you look behind you and a Enderman is starring right at you. You are freaked out and don't know what to do. It's tempting to look back at the new thing you found in the dungeon so you look back, next thing you know the Enderman jumps at you and attack!
If I were Notch I would be extremely embarrassed since modders are making better things that he's making. For example the aether mod. It's basically the best mod there is for minecraft, it's a completely new world. He couldn't at least bought the mod from the guy who made it and used it in minecraft.
If I ever learn to make Minecraft mods, you will have ample weaponry to take out Endermen. Currently trying to think of basic ideas to post on Minecraftforum.

When the game is only bugfixed from time to time, that's when development REALLY takes off.

Once Minecraft is out of Beta, modding will become more awesome.
Modders are better at making things in Minecraft's engine than Mojang ever has been.

That's what I was trying to say. Mojang is an epic fail at making stuff in Minecraft. The only thing they succeeded is in creating Minecraft.

Elevators would be cool if he added them. So you can make an elevator using a pulley and gear system.
Tonne of elevator mods for now though, and you can always use Piston elevators.
