Arts is hard. I added tiny strokes and it changed the expression of the sad cat to happier cat. This is the trouble I go through with faces. A pixel off or a value off and I've gone and smothered my work in expired apple sauce.

I don't know if this fixed the awkwardness you pointed out, but I did some tweaking with the mouth and eyes to make him look a little happier.
