Windows XP Program Transfer HELP

Rate this Entry
Okay, so my Mom got a new computer but she needs to transfer a program from the old computer (Windows XP) to the new one (Windows 7).
There is one file transfer thing that uses Windows Easy Transfer but that makes no sense to me and wont work so I gave up on that.

What I need to do is transfer the program onto an External Hard Drive and then to the new computer. My problem lies in getting the program onto the external hard drive. Well, actually it is findind the program on the computer. How can I find the program and transfer it to the new computer? I can get the short cut, but I need all of the file information. She needs to keep the information because it has business receipts and stuff. Any ideas and help because I really have no clue on what to do.

Problem is the search feature in Windows XP is really making me mad and doesn't want to work at all.

Right click on the shortcut and go to properties. It should say where the shortcut leads. If that doesn't work, use Search in all the main folders. (I'm assuming you know part of the file name[s].) Next time she should keep things more organized.

Look in the main HDD of the computer
    Program files
    Find its name under there
    Bingo.

Okay so I looked it up online, watched half a video and realized how dumb I was.
So I just went into the local disk drive, right there was a folder named "Program Files" and inside was everything I needed.
    Sorry for my fail. xD
And I think usb basically said what I needed. Thanks.

If it's small enough, go to where your program files are stored, send it to your gmail acc, and restore it
Edit: Send it to a compressed zip folder too

My whole problem was I didn't know where the program files were kept. xD
But, I found it in the Local Disk Drive. (I was stupid enough not to look in there)
