Thanks, I now think the 2 week limit is justified as long as people with genuine circumstances have the option to get a longer one when it isn't possible for them to ask for a refresh or something.

Construct a right triangle with hypotenuse C and other sides A and B of any length. Say that x is the angle between B and C (it could be between A and C as well, but it doesn't matter). The formula of sin(x) is then A/C, and cos(x) is then B/C. The Pythagorean theorem is A^2+B^2=C^2. Divide both sides by C^2, and you get (A/C)^2+(B/C)^2=1. Then we can plug in sin(x) and cox(x) for A/C and B/C, respectively, getting sin(x)^2+cos(x)^2=1.

Could you prove that sin^2+cos^2=1 for me? it's one of the identities in my maths paper and I would like to understand how it works.
