How about yours? Another thing: what if POST can't even start because of a hardware error?

That is very true. Do you happen to know the order of components the computer checks in POST?
It does give the error, that's why the computer doesn't start. However, for whatever reason, it's not showing it. That's not uncommon for POST, since it might simply not have reached the screen-managing code yet.
Isn't it logical, though, that POST would give you a fatal hardware error upon startup? I mean seriously, who designed POST? I mean, YOU could code something better.
